Lake Response Network (LRN) was organized by Lake County residents to respond to reports of ICE/Border Patrol presence in Lake County. LRN is working with NorCal Resist to provide a Hotline to report possible ICE/Border Patrol sightings and to mobilize local response teams. NorCal Resist manages the Hotline.
LRN is also working with Lake County residents to distribute Know Your Rights cards and to show up to witness and support immigrants who may be targets.
Trained local Responders are located in every community of Lake County and will rapidly respond to calls received by the Hotline of possible sightings/ICE presence. Trained Responders will be dispatched to the reported sighting; Responders are trained to observe, record, and verify if there is an actual ICE presence or not. Goals are to reassure our immigrant community and verify if a sighting is valid, and to have many concerned people show up to witness an actual ICE/Border Patrol presence here in Lake County.
If ICE/Border Patrol is actually targeting people in Lake County, LRN will immediately notify “ally” groups who will be sent to the location to provide a peaceful presence, witness, and show support for anyone who is being targeted by ICE/Border Patrol. Guidelines for how to witness an ICE/Border Patrol presence in our county are available for anyone who plans to show up and provide support. Gerrymandering is achieved through adjusting the boundaries of districts to achieve desired electoral outcomes such as diluting the voting power of a racial or ethnic group, protecting incumbents from losing their seats to challengers, or keeping one political party in power.
The term gerrymander refers to the strange boundary shapes. It was coined in 1812 by newspapers critical of then-governor of Massachusetts Elbridge Gerry, who signed a redistricting bill that benefited his party.
