Lake County Stands Up Proud
Thank you Lake County for Standing Up!!
Close to 1,200 of our community members came together in Old Courthouse Museum Square Park on Saturday, June 14 to voice their concern about current administration policies, which are attacking our civil liberties, our equal rights, our freedom of speech, and our basic human support systems.
Lake County stands together to say NO! Lake County stands up peacefully and forcefully to voice our concerns. Lake County stands up to say we believe in justice, equity, and true liberty for all!!!
Adding to our voices were Nara Dahlbacka, Lake County Democrats, Denise Rushing, Indivisible Lake County, Luca Moretti, for Rep. Mike Thompson, and Marie Schrader, Discover Lakeport.
A special thank you to Sam Euston of Sam Euston Productions and Dan Fitzsimmons of Definite Video Productions for memorializing our proud moment!!! Please enjoy their terrific video.
Thank you Rep Mike Thompson for your support.
Mike Thompson Letter 250614Senate Bill 226 — Opinion
Opinion By:
Doug Harris, Trustee
Yuba Community College District
707-350-0656
Confusion, upheaval, and wastefulness for the Yuba Community College District, including the Lake County Campus, is being sown in the form of SB 226, which flew through the State Senate and is now headed to the State Assembly. It would empower the governor-appointed Community College Board of Governors to unilaterally impose boundary changes on local community colleges districts regardless of opposition by the locally elected college governing boards.
The intended objective of this legislation is a transfer of the Yuba Community College area around Woodland to the Los Rios Community College District. This would result in huge costs to the districts, and consume enormous administrative resources, which are desperately needed to fulfill the mission of community colleges: to serve students’ educational needs and the economic development needs of our communities, including at the Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College. SB 226 will go to the education committee in the Assembly next. I urge calls and letters of opposition to SB 226 be sent to Assembly Member Cecilia Aguiar- Curry:
