Be A Mentor

Be A Mentor is a Bay Area non profit that runs successful mentoring programs. They have acquired a grant to expand into rural communities to serve at-risk youth, and Kelseyville is their starting point.

Right now they are recruiting mentors to volunteer to meet with local youth in a group mentoring setting 1 time/week. Meetings will be on Thursdays, for one hour, around 5 pm, at Mountain Vista Middle School. They are asking for a year long commitment to this 1 hour a week session.

The organization offers free training to the mentors and great support to the mentors.
I myself will be running the sessions along with a member from our partner the CA National Guard. He is great, his name is Steven, and he has a teaching background.

We will be going through a drug prevention curriculum, focusing on positive decision making, helping kids with goal setting, actions plans, career and skill exposure, and voting on what the group would like to focus on. There will be fun indoor activities and outdoor excursions.

We have 1 mentor trained and 1 in the process and I only need about 2-3 more to get started mentoring kids. The youth will most likely be middle schoolers from Mountain Vista, but the program is open to all kids 10-17.

Be A Mentor also has plans to expand to other areas of the county once we get Kelseyville up and running. So if you or anyone in your social circle would be interested send them my way or apply through the link in my signature!
