Data in this report was pulled on June 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. from the California Secretary of State and the Lake County Registrar of Voters. These are unofficial results and will continue to change during the canvass period as vote-by-mail, provisional, conditional voter registration provisional, and other ballots are processed. The results for state and federal contests will be certified on July 10, 2026.
Statewide and District Contests
As of June 29, 2026, at 4:30 p.m., with just ten days left, all 19,788 state precincts were partially reported in the California primary results. The governor’s race remained the marquee statewide contest, with Xavier Becerra (Dem) leading at 28.1% and Steve Hilton (Rep) close behind at 24.7%, followed by Tom Steyer (Dem) at 22.8%. Chad Bianco (Rep) is at 10.2%.
In the race for Lieutenant Governor, Fiona Ma (Dem) continues to hold a narrow edge over Gloria Romero (Rep), 19.1% to 17.7%, while Josh Fryday (Dem) and Michael Tubbs (Dem) remained behind with 14.7% and 13.3% respectively.
Several other statewide contests showed clearer leads, including Shirley N. Weber (Dem) as the clear front-runner for secretary of state at 58.7%, Malia M. Cohen (Dem) still well ahead for controller at 56.8%, and Rob Bonta (Dem) for attorney general at 54.9%.
The run for Treasurer is still too close to call with Kounalakis (Dem)at 36.7% and Hawks (Rep) at 24.0%.
For Insurance Commissioner, Jane Kim (Dem) is holding the lead at 27.4% with Ben Allen (Dem) eight points behind at 19.4%.
The two clear front-runners for Superintendent of Public Instruction are Sonja Shaw with 22.6% closely followed by Richard Barrera at 20.3%.
Among district contests tied to Lake County, Sally J. Lieber (Dem) still has a huge lead for the Board of Equalization District 2 with 56.8%. In U.S. House District 1, James Gallagher still has a 0.3% lead with 42.1% to Mike McGuire’s 41.8%. In U.S. House District 4, Mike Thompson has evolved to become the clear leader with 41.0%, ahead of Eric Jones at 22.2%, and Ray Riehle at 20.7%.
It is obvious that Damon Connolly is the new State Senator for District 2 commanding 73.4%. Cecilia M. Aguiar-Curry is unopposed in State Assembly District 4.
Lake County Contests
How Lake County Voted in Statewide Contests
Lake County’s results, with the exception of Governor and D-1 Representative, now seem to be more supportive of Democrat Candidates over Republican candidates, and is more in line with the State results (In the table below, Republican candidates are in red font.)
In the governor’s contest, Steve Hilton still leads with 4,763 votes, or 28.21%, while Tom Steyer is 8.6 points behind with 3,310 votes, or 19.61%. While Xavier Becerra is leading at the State level, he is trailing in Lake County with 3,148 votes, or 18.65%. Chad Bianco is now losing in Lake County with 3.024 votes, or 18.65%.
