Take Action February – From Congressman Mike Thompson- Let’s win GA 06 April 18

It’s been just over a month since Inauguration Day, and already, our country faces steep challenges. Whether you’re concerned about Republican attacks on healthcare, the rights of refugees, or the politicization of national security, the past few weeks have left many feeling frightened and angry.

Marching into 2018

That’s why the first thing I want to say is this: our activism is working.
The Women’s March, the Day without Immigrants, the turnout at Town Hall events across the country – these efforts are making a real difference. The President’s immigration ban has been halted in the courts; Republicans across the country are having to answer for their party’s dangerous attack on the
Affordable Care Act; nonprofit organizations like Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union have seen record levels of donations.

There is no doubt that we have tough fights ahead of us. This
President has shown a total disregard for the facts. He has insulted immigrants, women, and the disabled. He repeatedly attacks the press. And he promotes one dangerous policy after another. So we cannot stand idly by. We cannot get discouraged, or lose steam. Our efforts are working.

Keep it up.

Adopt-a-District

One question I hear a lot from constituents is “How can I help?”

Folks all over the country are looking for ways to get involved
and support the causes they care about. And for these efforts to be successful, we need to engage and mobilize across the country – not just in our hometowns.

That’s why I’m starting a program called “Adopt a District.” Our goal is to support candidates fighting for causes we believe in, all over the country, as part of our larger effort to take back Democratic control of Congress. And we’re going to start in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District.

Democrat Jon Ossoff, a journalist and former Congressional national security staffer, is running to replace Republican Tom Price. In a crowded field, Jon stands out: he’s earned the endorsement of civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis, and his national security expertise, experience in Congress, and the work he’s done to support investigative journalism make him an exceptional candidate.

The special election is slated for April 18, 2017. In advance of
the vote, I’m holding two fundraisers for Jon here in our district on Friday, March 24. One will be a morning, coffee-style fundraiser, to be held in Napa at 8:30 a.m, and the other will take place at 5 p.m. that evening in Santa Rosa.

It’s a great opportunity to support a promising Democratic
candidate in a tough race, and taking back a seat in the House of Representatives would be a big pickup before the 2018 elections. For more information on, and to purchase tickets for, the event in Napa, click here. For Santa Rosa, click here.

Women’s March Videos

Lastly, like many of you, I was blown away by the passion and the courage demonstrated by everyone who took part in last month’s Women’s Marches, both here at home and across the country. I marched in Napa, where I gave a
brief speech, and I’ve had several constituents who were unable to attend ask me if my remarks were taped. That video can be found here.

As I said that day, it would be very easy to get discouraged and
give up. But when the going gets tough, the tough get going. And if I know our district – if I know you – I know we’ll keep the faith, get in gear, and fight even harder for the things we care about.
