Senator Pat Wiggin's March Report

Senator Wiggin feels that the 27-Bill package that the State Senate Democratic Caucus has introduced will help create approx. 140,000 jobs in California.
These jobs will be funded from State and Federal funds targeted for projects that will jump start the economy.

The 2010 agenda package targets unspent bond money that would create new programs to provide new job and improve infrastructure. The high speed rail bond, SB 964, approx. $25 million, will provide training for 5,000 California alone.

Over 1,600 jobs will be create from SBX8 35 redirecting $80 million in proposition 1D bonds  for green school energy efficiency projects.

SBX8  28 redirects $105 Million in Proposition 1C housing bond funds from ineffective programs to those that can fund shovel-ready projects to build affordable housing and parks. With this, it is anticipated to create another 1,500 jobs.

Senator Wiggins was one of the principal co-author of SB810 –California Universal Health Care Act, which has already passed through the State Senate with a vote 22-14 and is now heading to the Assembly for consideration. If approved by both houses of Legislature and signed into law by the Governor, SB81 would establish a “single-payer” health care system to provide coverage to all 37 million Californians.

Senator Wiggin’s states” Californians can no longer rely on the current system of private insurance, as no one is guaranteed to receive care when they become ill and many who are insured often have inadequate coverage. By contract, SB810 would provide every Californian with health care coverage that would provide comprehensive benefits and a high quality of care.

Democratic Central Committee Elections

A brief overview of the structure of the Democratic Party in California

The Lake County Democratic Central Committee is the official governing body for the Democratic party in Lake County.  Any active Democrat, who wishes to represent Democrats within their supervisorial District on the Committee  is eligible to  run for a seat.

Holding a voting seat on the county committee enables you to help shape the local and statewide platform, determine which issues we focus on, which campaigns we support, which candidates we endorse.

The County Committee runs the co-ordinated election campaigns in that county, in conjunction with  the state party.

Beginning, Tuesday February 16, registered Democrats can go to the courthouse registrar of voters in person and fill out  the paperwork to receive the packet that enables you  to collect signatures.
You need to collect at least 20 and no more than 40 signatures of registered Democrats who reside in your supervisorial district.

Turn in  signature sheets to the registrar in person, no later than March 12,

If there are more candidates in any district, than seats available, the names will appear on the June Primary Ballot.
The number of openings for each District are as follows:
(this number is calculated based on the number of registered Democrats in each District)
District 1 - 5 seats
District 2 - 4 seats
District 3 - 5 seats
District 4 - 4 seats
District 5 - 5 seats

Assemblyman Wes Chesbro - February 2010 Report

The Assemblyman is in the process of introducing this session's legislation.

There is a great deal of focus on the Governor's budget proposal.  One area
of serious concern is his proposal to eliminate IHSS services for 87% of
current consumers.  The Assemblyman will be continuing to advocate for the
seniors and people with disabilites who depend on these services for their
well being and independence.

Anyone interested in making comments can write to the Budget Sub- Committee members listed below.  The Assemblyman is not on this committee - he does attend hearings and is interested in hearing comments as well but he has no vote on this issue.

Below are the members of Budget Sub-Committee 1 (Humans Services):

Senator Pat Wiggins - February 2010 Report

Senator Patricia Wiggins (D – Santa Rosa) was one of only a handful of state senators to earn a 100% score last year from three leading environmental organizations.

In their recently-released assessments of state legislators’ votes on Assembly and Senate bills in 2009, the Sierra Club, Environment California and the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) all rated Wiggins as perfect in her support for legislation to protect forests and the coast along with air and water quality.

Despite this latest discouraging news about the state budget, we must find a way to look forward – growing our economy and getting Californians back to work, as well as making infrastructure and education investments with long-standing benefits for our future.

This year, Senate Democrats will move forward with a package of legislation to create jobs and grow the economy.
